Job Summary

The Urology Department, led by Mr. Paul Hunter-Campbell, consists of 14 consultants and a team of nine middle‑grade doctors, trainees, foundation doctors, surgical care practitioners, and specialist nurses providing 24‑hour on‑call cover. Our outpatient department at the Chestnut Unit offers one‑stop clinics and the state‑of‑the‑art Da Vinci X robotic system in the Freedom Operating Theatres for robotic surgeries.

Services We Provide
  • Complex kidney stone surgery with the only fixed‑site lithotripter in the Peninsula.
  • Functional and neuro‑urology.
  • Andrological care for the entire Peninsula.
  • Bladder outflow obstruction treatments including HoLEP.
  • Paediatric urology, including laparoscopic procedures.
  • Kidney transplantation.
  • Uro‑oncology services for prostate, bladder, renal, and penile cancers.
  • Tertiary referrals for radical prostatectomy, cystectomy, partial nephrectomy, and adrenalectomy from The Royal Cornwall Hospital.
Main Duties of the Job

Ideal candidates will have completed urology training and are seeking to specialise further in Robotic Pelvic Onco‑Urology. The fellowship provides in‑depth experience in robotic pelvic oncology surgery, particularly radical prostatectomy and cystectomy, with the goal of enabling independent robotic surgery practice by the end of the fellowship. Experience within the UK healthcare system or an equivalent setting is desirable. Overseas applicants must be eligible for General Medical Council registration and have achieved an overall IELTS score of at least 7.5.

Responsibilities
  • Comprehensive robotic training focused on pelvic malignancies.
  • Managing urological oncology patients, primarily with pelvic cancers.
  • Developing expertise in robotic‑assisted procedures such as prostatectomy, cystectomy, and pelvic exenteration.
  • Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams, including medical/radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, and specialist nurses.
  • Contributing to clinical research and audit projects, with opportunities to present findings at national and international conferences.
  • Participating in teaching and training for resident doctors and surgical trainees.
  • Providing general urological care as an active member of the urology department.
Qualifications
  • Completed FRCS Urol.
  • On the UK Specialist Register or eligible within six months of interview.
Knowledge
  • Strong general and sub‑specialty training.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform advanced procedures.
