Barclays Chief Control Office is hiring a Director: PBWM Controls Oversight Director
Responsibilities
- Provide oversight of key PBWM COO areas, ensuring robust knowledge of business areas, products, processes, and platforms to assess risk.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across the bank and business units to improve control effectiveness through detailed documentation of control assessments, procedures, and findings.
- Identify and investigate potential weaknesses and issues within internal controls to promote continuous improvement and risk mitigation aligned to the bank’s control framework, prioritised by severity.
- Develop reports to communicate key findings from risk assessments, including control weaknesses and recommendations to control owners, senior management, and stakeholders.
- Lead the execution of reviews to determine the effectiveness of the bank’s internal controls framework aligned to established and evolving policies, regulations, and best practice.
- Ensure adherence to the Barclays Controls Framework and set appropriate methodology for assessing controls against the Framework.
Requirements
- Expertise in Risk & Controls: deep understanding of control frameworks, relevant regulations, and the COO risk and control structure.
- Strategic Influence: skilled at aligning cross‑functional teams and influencing senior stakeholders across multiple areas.
- Delivery Focus: proven ability to prioritise and deliver actions that support PBWM in achieving strategic objectives, and to accelerate issues effectively.
- Executive‑Level Governance: experience overseeing the delivery of executive‑level governance with an emphasis on enterprise‑wide thinking, automation, and analytics.

Purpose of the Role
To assess the integrity and effectiveness of the bank’s internal control framework to support the mitigation of risk and protection of the bank’s operational, financial, and reputational risk.
Director Expectations
- Manage a business function, providing significant input to function‑wide strategic initiatives; influence policy and procedures and plan, manage, and consult on multiple complex projects.
- Manage the direction of a large team or sub‑function, leading people managers and embedding a performance culture aligned to the values of the business; or act as a deep technical expert and thought leader if an individual contributor.
- Provide expert advice to senior functional management and committees to influence decisions beyond the own function, offering input to function‑wide strategic initiatives.
