Job description

The Payroll Director is responsible for directing and supervising the daily operations of the Payroll Department. This role ensures accurate and timely payroll processing for all employees of the Hospital, Medical Group, and District Commissioners. The Payroll Director will manage payroll staff, participate in payroll processing and reporting, provide customer support to both internal and external stakeholders, and ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and supervise the daily operations of the Payroll Department
  • Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing for all employees
  • Manage and mentor payroll staff to achieve departmental goals
  • Participate in payroll processing and reporting activities
  • Provide customer support to internal and external stakeholders regarding payroll matters
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state payroll regulations
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee and organizational information
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Accounting (substantial experience leading a Payroll Department may substitute for degree)
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) and Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) expected
  • Knowledge and experience working in a public unionized environment
  • Previous healthcare industry experience
  • Strong ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Must have at least 2 years of recent experience in the specialty within the past 2 years.
Preferred Qualifications (if any)
  • Advanced leadership experience in payroll management within healthcare or unionized environments
  • Familiarity with payroll software systems and reporting tools
