Job summary

A recruitment agency is seeking a Temporary Payroll Adviser for a District Council based in Nottinghamshire. The role, offered on a hybrid basis, requires a Level 3 payroll qualification and substantial experience in payroll calculations and provision. Successful candidates will provide excellent customer service, demonstrate initiative, and work effectively in teams. Familiarity with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, is essential. Salary ranges from £14.84 PAYE to £19.71 UMB per hour. The initial contract is for 3 months, with possible extension.

Location: Kirkby-in-Ashfield (hybrid)

Contract: Initial 3 months (could be extended for a further 3)

Salary: 14.84 PAYE or 19.71 UMB per hour

Skills

Knowledge
  • Knowledge of PAYE, SSP, SMP, SPP, SAP and national insurance
  • Knowledge of real time information and pension auto enrolment requirements
  • Knowledge of payroll legislation and its practical application and current developments in payroll practice
  • Local Government Pension Scheme regulations
  • Local authority conditions of service in relation to payroll
Experience
  • Substantial use of computerised payroll systems and computer software where accuracy is essential
  • Substantial experience in a payroll provision
  • Substantial experience in payroll calculations e.g. manual calculations, restructure calculations, equal pay and settlements to a high standard
  • Experience and competence in using a range of Microsoft Office packages including Word, Excel and Outlook
Qualifications
  • Level 3 payroll qualification (e.g. Advanced Certificate in Payroll procedures or NVQ3 in Payroll Administration)
  • Level 2 qualification to demonstrate numeracy and significant experience in payroll administration
