An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Dermatology nurse to join our friendly and driven Paediatric Dermatology Clinical Nurse Specialist Team.
We are looking for a dynamic and committed nurse who has a strong background or is willing to learn in Dermatology, is flexible, ambitious, proactive and has the ability to communicate effectively.
Currently we see patients with eczema and other inflammatory skin diseases and acne.
The Paediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist will run various clinics throughout the week, seeing patients with severe eczema, acne and general dermatology conditions, as well as patients on systemic treatments and biologics.
With support from the multidisciplinary team, the role will work towards becoming an autonomous clinical expert by assessing, planning and implementing topical, systemic and biologic treatments, ensuring all patient information and treatment provided is current and evidence‑based.

Leads specialist area or team; may manage a caseload in the community.
Acts as a clinical and professional role model for the nursing and wider multi‑professional team.
Shares deputising responsibilities with other band 6 nurses for the dermatology nurse manager in their absence.
Escalates as appropriate.
Demonstrates skills for assessing and interpreting complex needs of children and young people.
Provides knowledge and advice on physiological and psychological symptoms to minimise patient and carer anxiety.
Plans provision of care for patients/clients, e.g. clinics, health education and promotion.
Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates complex clinical care of children and young people.
Provides specialist advice to patients/clients/carers in relation to programmes of care that may be complex.
Provides sensitive information to patients where there may be barriers to understanding.
Develops and implements specialist programmes of care.
Uses robust decision‑making and clinical judgment to achieve the best outcomes.
We provide hospital services from two acute sites – Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester‑Le‑Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale, as well as over 80 other community‑based settings and patients' homes.

Undertakes specialist assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of clinical care for a caseload of patients/clients in paediatric dermatology using appropriate validated tools such as CDLQI, IDQOL, EASI, PHQ‑9 and GAD‑7.
Provides nurse‑led clinics for paediatric patients with eczema, acne, psoriasis and other dermatological conditions, bridging the gap between primary, secondary and other health providers.
Provides nurse‑led clinics and accepts referrals in the community service for new patients with an agreed diagnosis, devises a treatment plan and plans future review/discharge as appropriate.
Reviews follow‑up patients in the secondary care setting, devises a treatment plan and plans future review/discharge as appropriate.
Prescribes and monitors medication as an independent nurse prescriber.
Is aware of and undertakes responsibilities with regard to child protection procedures both locally and nationally, liaising with the multidisciplinary team, and working within the philosophy that the needs of the child are paramount.
Manages own workload, with the nurse‑led paediatric clinics.
Develops and maintains nurse‑led services within dermatology, writing protocols to meet the needs of this patient population.
Helps develop a modern dermatological service for children and young people.
Provides specialist advice to patients/clients/carers.
Is an accountable practitioner.
Maintains records as an autonomous practitioner.
Skilled at assessing and managing risk.
Accepts responsibility for decisions made and actions taken.
There is no requirement to manage or monitor budget.
