Personal Assistant / Carer for Elderly Lady with Dementia.

We are looking for a kind and reliable Personal Assistant / Carer to support an 85-year-old lady with dementia for three days a week.

Looking for a PA that is kind, trustworthy, and respectful of privacy and dignity. Reliable and punctual, with good communication skills. Experience with dementia care preferred but not essential — a caring nature is most important. Full UK driving licence (and access to a car) desirable but not required.

Roles and Responsibilities

The role involves companionship, light housework, preparing meals and accompanying her to church/ local coffee shops.

Specific Requirements
  • A genuine caring nature and patience
  • Good communication and listening skills
  • Reliability and trustworthiness (especially when working independently)
  • Empathy and respect for an elderly person’s dignity and faith
  • Basic cooking and housekeeping skills
  • Understanding of dementia (through experience or training)
Required Training
  1. Care Certificate – a UK standard for care workers (covers safeguarding, dignity, infection control, etc.).
  2. Dementia Awareness Training – helps the carer understand communication, memory, and behaviour changes.
  3. First Aid / Emergency First Aid at Work – basic safety and response skills.
  4. Food Hygiene / Food Safety Level 2 – useful since the role includes cooking meals.
  5. Manual Handling / Moving & Handling – in case assistance with mobility is ever needed.

All of these can be completed online or through local adult learning providers.

About Me

Lady is an 85-year-old widow with dementia who lives with her son and her cat. She enjoys attending daily Mass at 12:10 and looks forward to her Wednesday Club each week, where she spends time with friends until mid-afternoon. Can sometimes forgets names and faces, but she is still able to hold engaging conversations and finds great joy in being around kind, patient people who share her values.
