Essential Qualities
  • Empathy and compassion: Understanding the impact of trauma and being able to respond with sensitivity and care
  • Resilience and emotional regulation: Remaining calm and consistent when faced with challenging behaviour or emotionally charged situations
  • Commitment to inclusion: Valuing diversity, promoting equality, and ensuring every child feels seen and supported
Desirable Qualities
  • Experience in youth work, social care, or education (though not always essential if the candidate shows empathy and drive)
  • Knowledge of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and their impact on learning and behaviour
  • Reflective practice: Willingness to learn, receive supervision, and adapt approaches based on feedback.
Your contribution to the community
  • Support students with SEMH by responding to their individual needs, promoting emotional wellbeing, and encouraging positive engagement in school life.
  • Foster creativity as a pathway to learning, using art, music, sport, or personal talents to support engagement and social connection.
  • Promote positive behaviour by applying trauma-informed approaches and Team Teach strategies.
  • Work alongside SENCOs, teachers, and pastoral staff to design and deliver personalised support for students with SEMH, keeping families engaged throughout the process.
