Ornithologist

Location: Shrewsbury

Salary: £29,000 - £42,000 per annum, depending on experience

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Ornithologist to join a busy ecological consultancy in Derby. This role offers the chance to conduct field surveys, contribute to ecological assessments, and play a key role in delivering high-quality advice on bird conservation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Carry out bird surveys across a variety of habitats, including breeding, wintering, and migratory species.
  • Prepare detailed reports and contribute to Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and Habitat Management Plans.
  • Provide practical advice on bird mitigation and conservation in line with UK wildlife legislation.
  • Work collaboratively with other ecologists and support project delivery.
Requirements:
  • Experience in ornithological fieldwork and survey techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of UK bird species, ecology, and relevant legislation.
  • Experience producing professional ecological reports.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Relevant degree in ecology, environmental science, or related field.
Desirable:
  • Membership of professional bodies such as CIEEM or BTO.
  • Experience with GIS mapping and ecological data analysis.
