Step into a high-impact leadership role at Sulzer Birmingham — one of the UK’s most advanced rotating equipment service centres. Officially opened by His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent in October 2021, our purpose-built facility features the latest in overhaul and testing technology, including a 50-tonne crane capacity, high-spec machining bays, and seamless digital workflows. As Operations Manager, you will take full P&L responsibility and lead strategic transformation across the site. We’re looking for someone who will live and breathe our four principles: Seize opportunities, Own it, Team up, and Create value — and inspire others to do the same.

Your main tasks and responsibilities:
  • Strategically lead all operational activities, with full accountability for P&L, cost control, and delivery against targets.
  • Drive continuous improvement and operational transformation using Lean methodologies to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Champion a proactive safety culture through visible leadership and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Build cross-functional collaboration and ensure operational agility to deliver outstanding customer outcomes.
  • Develop, coach, and empower your team with a strong focus on succession planning.
To succeed in this role, you will need:
  • Proven operational leadership with direct P&L ownership and experience in delivering transformational change.
  • Background in rotating equipment services (motors, generators, pumps) or a similar engineered service environment is preferred but not essential.
  • Strong commercial acumen and a proactive mindset for identifying and seizing business improvement opportunities.
  • A sound understanding of health, safety, and environmental legislation.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to unite teams and drive results collaboratively.
What we offer you:
  • A competitive base salary
  • Personal annual bonus scheme based on individual and business performance
  • Private medical cover.
  • 33 days annual leave (inclusive of bank holidays)
  • Defined contribution pension scheme
  • Confidential support through our Employee Assistance Programme
  • Access to exclusive discounts on shopping, entertainment, travel and more
  • Costco membership application support and discounted car leasing for you and your family
  • Long Service Awards to recognise your contributions over time
  • Continuous learning via Sulzer Learning Pathways and leadership development programmes
  • Free on-site parking with excellent access to the M6/M42
