Main duties of the job

We are seeking an experienced healthcare leader who can take charge of a busy walk-in centre and deliver excellent patient care. The Operations Manager will manage and inspire a team of clinical and non-clinical staff, drive operational excellence, and work closely with stakeholders to continuously improve the service.

We are looking for someone who is confident in people management, understands budgets and service targets, and thrives in a fast-paced healthcare environment. You'll also be responsible for regulatory compliance, including CQC readiness, and leading initiatives to improve service quality and patient experience.

Job responsibilities

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Recent management experience with a proven track record of leading teams.
  • Strong understanding of autonomous practice within a minor illness or Urgent Treatment Centre.
  • Knowledge of adult and paediatric minor illness guidelines and their application in clinical services.
  • In-depth knowledge of CQC Key Lines of Enquiry (KLOEs) and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to manage performance and prioritise workloads effectively.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Good understanding of clinical pathways and service delivery standards.
  • Computer literacy and comfort using data to monitor performance.
  • Lead a motivated, skilled team delivering urgent care to the community.

Sheffield Walk-in Centre sees approximately 77,500 patients annually through walk in and those booked directly into the service through 111. We have a close relationship with the local hospitals and work across the city with our external partners, to ensure we are providing high-quality care for our patients. We have excellent links with the specialists at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Northern General Hospital, The Childrens Hospital, Eye Casualty and Sexual Health Centre, who provide support to our clinicians and the patients attending the Walk-in Centre

  • Evidence of leading a team
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Good understanding of autonomous practice within a minor illness/Urgent Treatment centre and the roles that deliver this
  • Good understanding of adult and paediatric guidelines in minor illness and why we need to deliver this within the service.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise workload.
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team.
  • In-depth Knowledge of the CQC Key lines of Enquiry
  • Current knowledge of government targets and initiatives and N.I.C.E. guidelines and their impact on clinical practice.
  • Good understanding of pathways.
