About the role

“Hunterston A has a very challenging Higher Activity Waste recovery and processing programme. My team discharges high hazard reduction across a multitude of different solid and liquid waste facilities.

I am keen to recruit a dynamic individual to contribute to safe and compliant Operations within the department. This role involves extensive commitment to train as a Senior Authorised Person in accordance with the company’s safety rules (Electrical & Mechanical (E&M) and radiological (NR)).The role requires training and appointment against Site Licence Condition LC26 to act as a Process Duly Authorised Person.

You will also be required to fulfil a role on the Company Emergency Scheme as a Duty Controller, which would require you to support a 24hr on-call rota. This requires you to live within an hour of site”.

Key Deliverables:

The purpose of the role is to ensure safety and compliance by supervising the operation of facilities/plant items in accordance with legislative requirements and Company Procedures. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Operate the Plant in accordance with Site Licence requirements, ensuring that the plant is operated within defined operating limits and routine testing is carried out to the required programme.
  • Identify problems arising on plant and ensure that they are investigated, and remedial actions put in place.
  • Conduct general inspections of the plant. Ensure positive identification of hazards and risk assessments around the site and for work activities.
  • To undertake the duty of Duly Authorised Person and Appointed Suitably Qualified and Experienced Person (ASQEP) in accordance with the Nuclear Site Licence.
  • Prepare and issue safety documents in accordance with Company safety rules.
  • Provide line management to members of the operational delivery team.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • HNC/HND or National Qualifications Framework, level 5 or equivalent in an appropriate engineering discipline. (Essential)
  • Thorough knowledge of the operational aspects of Mechanical, Electrical and Control and Instrument Engineering to the required standard. (Essential)
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal (Essential).

  • The equivalent of 25 days (185 hours per year) annual leave plus Public Holidays (59.2 hours per year). This increases by 2 days (14.8 hours per year) annual leave after two full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year), and an additional 3 days (22.2 hours per year) annual leave after five full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year). You also have the option to buy or sell the equivalent of 5 days (37 hours) annual leave each year (available in specific windows for the following holiday year). For the purpose of assessing an employee’s annual leave entitlement, a day means seven and two fifths (7.4) hours. A pro rata entitlement will apply for part time workers.

There is a requirement to live within a commutable distance to the sites where the role is based. For central/multi-site roles, we have various hubs across the UK and can be flexible with base location.
