Overview

Operations & Commercial Director, Core Banking – London. We’re on a mission to make money work for everyone. We’re building simple, clear banking experiences for Monzo’s 12 million personal customers, including current accounts, joint accounts and U16s, with value propositions across everyday money management features and paid upgrades like Subscriptions.

We’re looking for an experienced, commercially-minded operator to join our Core Banking collective as a high-impact leader with ownership to drive growth from 12 million to 20+ million customers.

Responsibilities
  • Owning the planning process for Core Banking: Lead our business planning, collective goals, half-year planning cycles, budget and headcount planning, and goal setting.
  • Tracking our performance: Monitor the effectiveness of initiatives with finance and data partners; review product and commercial data to adapt strategies and stay on track.
  • Operationalising our strategy and priorities: Collaborate with operations, fincrime/fraud, marketing, risk and compliance, and product teams across Core Banking and wider Monzo.
  • Ensuring rigorous commercial processes/outcomes: Work with the GM and collective leaders to ensure robust commercial strategy and processes that drive the right outcomes.
  • Governance and risk management: Partner with first line teams to enable product squads while evaluating and managing risks and controls to scale safely.
  • Lead a team of product operations specialists: Lead a small but growing team.
  • Think strategically and operationally: translate big-picture goals into actionable steps and act quickly.
  • Connect the dots across the business and foster collaboration.
  • Show strong operational experience in a scaling consumer business with impact on P&L, team size, and complexity.
  • Lead and scale teams with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple processes in parallel.
  • Be data-oriented and risk-aware, using data to inform decisions while mitigating risks.
  • Communicate effectively with diverse audiences (Product, Operations, Senior Leaders, etc.).
  • Demonstrate commercial acumen and data literacy to inform business decisions.
  • Show ownership, a proactive, hustle mindset, and the ability to balance conflicting priorities.
