Operational Work Area Manager - Late Shift

Salary £38,114 - £41,114 (subject to experience), £5,736 late shift allowance per annum pro rata, 10% annual bonus potential

25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, pension scheme with highly competitive contribution rates

Permanent, Full time, 41 hours per week

Heathrow Worldwide Distribution Centre, Langley, Slough, SL3 8AQ

Royal Mail International Operations operates from the HWDC (Heathrow Worldwide Distribution Centre), the UK's largest and most advanced automated hub. This hub processes worldwide imports and exports, adhering to stringent customs and aviation security standards, and connects customers with over 195 countries globally. Spanning 45,000 square metres, HWDC has the capability to manage around 1 million import / export items daily.

The role

To support the efficient running of the late shift. we have a vacancy for a dedicated individual to join us as a Work Area Manager . In this role, you will oversee a minimum of 20 frontline staff, delivering high performance leadership, driving motivation, innovation, and service excellence for our global customers.

You will be responsible for :
  • Health and safety compliance, ensuring all employees take responsibility for H&S and driving safety‑first culture in the work area.
  • The day‑to‑day operation and performance of the work area ensuring work plan and scorecard targets are achieved to exceed customer expectation.
  • The management of frontline staff to include regular one‑to‑ones, team meetings and HR duties, attendance, performance management, training, and team development.
  • The maintenance and analysis of all Work Area control systems.
  • Monitoring daily performance and operational plans and collaborating with the Shift Manager to exceed service and operational metrics.
  • Identifying and implementing process improvements and delivering change management.
Shift pattern

Tuesday – Saturday 13 : 48 - 22 : 00. A degree of flexibility is required to meet operational requirements.

About you
  • From a distribution / logistics background with knowledge of export / import operations and automation systems.
  • Experience managing large teams in a fast‑paced, operational environment.
  • Experience leading teams through change and improvement initiatives.
  • Strong communication, influencing and people management skills.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with a range of key stakeholders.
  • A track record of achieving KPIs, driving performance and problem solving.
  • Analytical skills to interpret data, identify trends and deliver results.
  • Ability to work under pressure in challenging environment and adapt to new ways of working.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
