Position Overview

To reach our vision FortisBC is looking for an Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) Business Partner to join our Contractor Safety Management team. You will work closely with our contractor community in an advisory capacity to ensure FortisBC’s contractor safety management program aligns with business needs and complies with regulatory requirements. Your portfolio will include supporting our Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) division at our Tilbury and Mt Hayes LNG plants.

Responsibilities
  • Develop an understanding of our business structure, organizational values, work culture, and the safety management system.
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders, communicate effectively, and support the safety culture. Lead and/or participate in contractor safety forums.
  • Provide subject‑matter expertise on contractor safety management to ensure compliance with applicable procedures, standards, and regulations.
  • Collaborate with diverse teams to support contractor safety management initiatives, including system reviews, onboarding, risk assessment, field inspection/audit, toolbox meetings, incident investigation, performance evaluation, and training.
  • Periodically evaluate the effectiveness of contractor safety management practices and identify opportunities for improvement across projects.
  • Provide guidance on multiple‑employer workplace interactions for employer owner and prime contractor roles in accordance with WorkSafeBC regulations and guidelines.
  • Participate in project‑related safety meetings, quarterly safety meetings, and contractor safety summits to share learnings and build relationships.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety or related discipline from an accredited program plus four to seven years of recent OH&S experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Relevant OH&S certification (e.g., CRSP, CRST, etc.) or the ability to obtain one.
  • Valid B.C. driver’s license and ability to travel frequently for work.
  • Key soft skills: result‑oriented, attention to detail, multi‑tasking, adaptive learner, empathy, effective communication, team collaboration.
  • Technology skills: MS Office, safety software, mobile applications, etc.
What you need to know

Prior to the interview Talent Acquisition will conduct a full employee general record review, including but not limited to sick leave, attendance records, personnel file review, and letters on file.

You will have the option to participate in a flexible work program enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year (approximately two days a week) subject to business or operational needs.
