Overview

BAND6 rotational OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST posts. Vacancy 1- Stroke pathway rotation. Exciting opportunities have arisen for Occupational Therapists with experience and a specialist interest in Stroke and Neurosciences to work at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. We are advertising posts on 2 different rotations - at interview you will be asked which is your preferred rotation.

The neuroscience Occupational Therapy team in Leeds is committed to providing a high level of evidence-based care and rehabilitation. As a Band 6 therapist you will support the Band 7 staff in leading and developing the service. Part of your role will also be to provide training and supervision to junior staff and students.

We are looking for Occupational Therapists who are passionate about putting patient outcomes at the heart of their care, and are confident, adaptable and compassionate. Experience of working with Stroke and Neurological conditions, complex caseload management and discharge planning should shine through in your application form and at interview. Our team thrives on collaboration and we are proud to be part of a strong and well-respected MDT. We are seeking skilled, motivated and like-minded Occupational Therapists to join our established teams.

Main duties of the job

We are committed to continuous learning and have established in-house training opportunities for development at all levels: including joint sessions with Band 7/Band 8 Clinical Specialist Therapist, peer support and a monthly neuro-in service training program. We have established and effective supervision processes and support in place for all staff.

Post 1 sits within the wider neurosciences band 6 rotation, providing clinical experience across specialties including acute stroke, stroke rehabilitation, neurosurgery, neurology, neuro-oncology (in-patient and out-patient) and neuro rehabilitation. Rotations will take you across LTHT sites: Leeds General Infirmary, St James Hospital and Chapel Allerton Hospital. Rotations are 18 months long.

Post 2 is within the stroke pathway rotation across the acute stroke wards at LGI, the stroke rehabilitation ward at Chapel Allerton Hospital and in the Community Stroke Rehabilitation service. You will need to be a car driver and have your own car for the community rotation. Rotations are 12 months long.

Job responsibilities

To work within the Occupational Therapy Service, providing effective Occupational Therapy intervention to various clinical areas.

To manage autonomously a clinical workload at a specialist level: assessing and treating patients and maintaining associated records.

To develop and apply specialist knowledge gained from past experience, on-the-job experience and specialist training.

To provide a patient-focused service following the Occupational Therapy process (screen referrals, assess and plan treatment programmes, implement and evaluate treatment programmes, monitor and discharge) using Occupational Therapy core skills.

To supervise and support Occupational Therapists and to delegate work to, supervise and support Occupational Therapy support staff. To supervise and educate Occupational Therapy students.

To act as a specialist Occupational Therapy resource for colleagues, carers and patients.

To be actively involved in team and service developments including audit and research.

Clinical responsibilities

This post holder will be responsible for providing complex occupational therapy intervention in a specific clinical specialty and will work as an autonomous practitioner addressing occupational therapy performance skills, social context and activity demands in collaboration with patients, carers and colleagues. Clinical intervention may take place in wards, therapy departments, clinics, peoples homes, workplaces, community facilities, child care and educational establishments. The role requires close liaison with the multidisciplinary team and community-based health and social care providers. The post holder is responsible for financial and physical resources for example, equipment store systems, petty cash. Principal duties and responsibilities are listed in section 9.

Team responsibilities
  • Management, supervision and support of Occupational Therapists, Support Staff and Students.
  • Deputising for Band 7.
  • Routine organisation and maintenance of the department/section.
  • Participation in projects and long-term team developments.
  • To offer continuity to Head of Occupational Therapy and colleagues in the team.
  • Leading and participating in in-service training.
  • To attend bi-monthly senior meetings to evaluate and develop the service.
  • To promote changes to policies, procedures and practices within the specialist clinical area as identified in the team plan.
  • Responsibility for checking and cleaning equipment in line with Trust health and safety policies.
