Job Title: Occupational Therapist

Grade: Band 6

Trust: Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Location: Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Broomhill, Glossop Rd, Sheffield S10 2JF / Northern General Hospital, Herries Road, Sheffield S5 7AU

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Pay rate: £20.88 per hour (exc WTD)

Responsibilities
  • Carry a clinical caseload including complex specialist cases, requiring clinical reasoning and highly specialist therapy, planning and prioritising own work.
  • Gather, analyse and evaluate information to identify problems in partnership with the patient, carer and colleagues.
  • Select and use appropriate assessment techniques in hospital, the patient's own home and/or in the community. Make clinical diagnosis and apply clinical reasoning.
  • Negotiate, agree expectations and set appropriate, realistic and individualised therapy goals in partnership with the patient, carer and colleagues.
  • Set up equipment for therapy and ensure it is used safely by patients, carers, staff and/or students.
  • Teach therapy techniques to carers including safe use of equipment, manual handling and management of the patient's condition.
  • Assist ill or dependant patients during therapy by responding to medical emergencies, operating wheelchairs, changing continence appliances and/or performing other activities involving manual handling and personal care.
  • Complete assessment forms, write comprehensive patient treatment records and produce written transfer and discharge reports in line with Trust and Therapy Services Guidelines.
What you'll need
  • BSc in Occupational Therapy or equivalent.
  • Current Health Professions Council registration.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Competency in occupational therapy clinical reasoning, processes & practices.
  • Post‑registration NHS experience as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Able to maintain accurate written records & statistics.
  • Relevant Qualifications.
  • Registration with the relevant Registration Body if applicable.
  • Evidence of meeting Regulation 22 requirements to prevent delays at Trust ID stage.
