Job summary

An energy company in Scotland is looking for a Control and Instrumentation professional. You will manage contractor works and carry out maintenance duties at the Markinch CHP Biomass Plant. Job description

RWE operates the Markinch CHP Biomass Plant, which has an installed electrical capacity of 61MW and is the largest recovered wood CHP plant in the UK.

The facility operates using around 400,000 tonnes of biomass annually. The energy generated derives from approximately 90% post-consumer waste wood, with the remaining portion consisting of sustainably harvested forestry residues from within Scotland.

About the role

This role will predominantly be a day’s role, with occasional overtime required.

  • Planning of scoped contractor works and Planned Preventive Maintenance.
  • Creation, modification and audit of RAMS.
  • Plan and carry out ATEX inspection schedules as part of site DSEAR requirements.
  • Fault finding and diagnosis of complex distributed control systems.
  • Carry out calibration, commissioning, recommissioning, function testing and SIF testing of new and installed systems using approved procedures.
  • Installation and commissioning of new plant and apparatus.
  • Management and stocking of the workshop and test area.
Job requirements and experience
  • Driven individual possessing effective communication skills with others. Must be willing to accept responsibility and learn new skills as the role requires.
  • Qualifications:
  • HNC – Control and Instrumentation / ECI Maintenance / Equivalent.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain Compex 1-4 and Compex 5-6.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain MEWP license 3A and 3B.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider, Valmet control logic training.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain UK security auditing.
  • Willing to obtain IOSH Managing safely.
  • Experience in a power, utilities, chemical or manufacturing environment.
  • Fluent in Microsoft 365 suite of applications.
  • List soft skills and illustrate them with examples e.g. "Customer-oriented - able to professionally manage challenging customer meetings and respond effectively to different types of customers."
  • Priority Oriented – Understands that plans must follow a critical path and acts accordingly.
  • Safety-conscious – Follows the UK Health and Safety at Work Act at all times.
  • Socially aware – Understands that as a person in control of work and people, their actions and communication reflect on themselves and their employer, and as such undertakes their duties with care and respect.
  • An expected starting salary from £50,000 to £58,000, depending on experience and up to 10% annual bonus.
