Overview

The Team:

The Emergency Department (ED) team within Hospitals North plays a critical role in providing immediate, life-saving care to the community. Comprising emergency physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, paramedics, allied health professionals, and support staff, the team works collaboratively to assess, diagnose, and manage acute medical conditions. Their multidisciplinary approach ensures timely and effective treatment for patients, while their integration with broader health services, such as primary care and public health, supports holistic care and continuity. Through their efforts, the ED team serves as the frontline responder, enhancing health outcomes and contributing to the overall well-being of the community.

The Role:

The NUM works autonomously at ward level under the general direction of the Nursing Director to provide nursing leadership and is responsible and accountable for:

  • Ensuring the standards of patient/client care within the practice area are in accordance with relevant legislation, clinical standards and evidence-based practice.
  • Ensuring the provision of nursing care that meets the care requirements of each patient/client in the practice area.
  • Managing physical, financial and human resources effectively, ensuring the practice area objectives are met.
  • Work collaboratively to support a learning organisation encouraging and supporting staff to develop further knowledge and skills to enhance the individual and the practice area.
  • Providing clear direction to staff, so that all staff have an understanding of their responsibilities and duties.
  • Ensuring that quality improvement processes are in place and acted upon, resulting in constant evaluation and improvement in the standard of care to patients/clients.
  • Acting as a role model for staff by actively coaching/mentoring/developing staff.

You will need:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of and experience in contemporary nursing management practice, including clinical governance; clinical risk management; evidenced based practice; research; clinical standards; ethics; and legislation.
  • Demonstrate capability to promote a shared vision and purpose and positively influence others (internally and externally) to ensure optimal client outcomes and build a culture of success, commitment and active contribution by all staff within the practice area.
  • Demonstrated capability to establish and maintain relationships and useful partnerships with people at all levels and disciplines across the business unit and group.

Details of appointment:

Permanent full time, day worker position, working 76hours per fortnight, commencing from a mutually agreed upon date.

Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $130,203 to $136,295 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10 % based on qualification type

Salary Packaging:

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.
