Job Title: Associate (NQ) – Transactional Construction

Location: Manchester (Hybrid working available)

Salary: £60,000

The Opportunity

A top-ranked firm is looking to appoint a newly qualified solicitor to join their market-leading transactional construction practice. This is an excellent opportunity to work on high-profile and innovative construction and engineering projects across both the public and private sectors.

The Role

You will be involved in advising a wide range of clients including central government departments, global universities, institutional investors, and developers across sectors such as life sciences, education, and infrastructure. The team regularly works with all major forms of construction contracts and takes a forward-thinking approach, including the use of AI tools to enhance bespoke drafting.

You'll be part of a collaborative and well-supported team, benefiting from in-house legal expertise, executive assistant support, and ongoing training. There will also be opportunities to contribute to business development through blog writing, seminars, and thought leadership reports.

Key Responsibilities (with supervision as appropriate):

  • Drafting and negotiating standard form amendments (e.g., JCT, NEC)
  • Advising on construction provisions in property transactions
  • Preparing consultant appointments, collateral warranties, bonds, and guarantees
  • Drafting and negotiating sub-contracts and sub-consultant warranties
  • Supporting due diligence for real estate, corporate, and finance transactions
  • Producing advice reports and handling post-completion matters
  • Conducting legal research and supporting in-house legal teams

The Person

  • Qualified as a solicitor (NQ level) or due to qualify shortly
  • Solid experience in transactional construction law gained during training contract or early PQE
  • Strong drafting skills and a proactive, collaborative working style
  • Keen interest in sustainability, innovation, and the future of the construction industry
