Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Higher Level Medical Secretary to work within the Care of the Older Adult secretary team based at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, Shrewsbury.

The post is 33.5 hours per week across Monday to Friday.

Responsibilities
  • The post holder will join a team of Medical Secretaries who organise the workload of the Consultants within the department and ensure that an efficient service is provided.
  • The post holder will produce accurate clinical and general correspondence, regularly using complex and sensitive medical terminology from audio transcription.
  • Respond to telephone calls from anxious and distressed patients, responding appropriately to contentious, sensitive and difficult enquiries.
  • The post holder is pivotal in the patients relationship with the hospital, the clinical team and the Consultants; the team supports each other to organise the workload of the Consultants within the department and ensure that an efficient service is provided.
Qualifications
  • 4 GCSEs (grades 9-4 or A-C) or equivalent
  • RSA stage 3 typing, word processing (or have equivalent experience)
  • Knowledge of MS Office
  • Qualified or working towards NVQ Level 3 Business/ Medical Admin or AMSPAR
Requirements
  • The ability to plan and prioritise a varied workload is essential
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a variety of staff groups at all levels
