This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong leadership skills who is looking to progress into a Deputy Manager role.

This role offers flexibility across all our homes in East Sussex, ideal for someone looking to develop leadership skills across a range of complex care specialities. Alternatively, you can choose to specialise in a single home. You'll gain experience in different settings, support diverse needs, and further develop your expertise in managing and mentoring night staff teams.

As a Night Team Leader, you will lead by example, promoting best practice and trauma‑informed, child‑centred care, while supporting both young people and staff throughout the night.

Requirements
  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or young person equivalent) – essential
  • Proven experience in a residential childcare setting with night shift experience – essential
  • Strong leadership and communication skills – essential

What You’ll Do
Leadership & Staff Management
  • Lead a small pod of night support workers, providing guidance, support, and mentoring.

  • Ensure safeguarding, documentation, and professional standards are maintained.
  • Foster a collaborative, supportive, and positive night team culture.
Supporting Young People
  • Provide calm, consistent care for young people with autism, ADHD, epilepsy, and severe learning disabilities overnight.
  • Support young people who may wake unsettled, distressed, or display behaviours such as hitting, grabbing, hair‑pulling, or self‑harm.
  • Use non‑verbal communication methods (e.g., PECS, Makaton, visual timetables) to engage non‑verbal or minimally verbal young people.
  • Monitor epilepsy and respond safely and appropriately to seizures.
  • Assist with personal care and maintain a nurturing, ‘home‑away‑from‑home’ environment.
Additional Duties
  • Support planning, delivery, and review of overnight routines to promote safety, wellbeing, and emotional regulation.
  • Step in to cover support worker duties as needed to maintain high‑quality care.
  • Respond to emergencies or crisis.
What We’re Looking For
  • Experienced, confident leader with strong communication and mentoring skills
  • Skilled in working with children with autism, ADHD, epilepsy, and learning disabilities
  • Knowledge of non‑verbal communication methods and sensory/positive behaviour support
  • Resilient, professional, and able to manage challenging situations calmly
  • Passionate about developing staff and leading by example
  • Ambitious to progress into a Deputy Manager or senior leadership role
