Job description
Overview

Due to the recent recategorisation to a Category B Remand Prison, we have an exciting opportunity for a Night Inpatient Nurse to join our Primary Care team at HMP Brixton. HMP Brixton is a Category B male prison since April 2025 housing men on remand. Our patients’ needs will vary, with a focus on mental health, substance misuse and early days in custody.

Hours

Full time, 37.5 hours per week. Night shifts run from 20:00 to 08:00. Shifts will be rotated between weekdays and weekends. Salary up to £53,134 per annum, depending on experience.

Candidate requirements

Candidates are required to have a legal right to work in the UK and, due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.

Main duties of the job
  • Work within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver a nurse-led service and prevent hospital admissions.
  • Undertake medication rounds, dispense controlled medication, attend emergency response situations, assess patients, and undertake reception screening.
  • Use your skills and knowledge to deliver nurse-led clinics to your patient group while supported by a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Contribute to our nursing strategy and vision: provide outstanding evidence-based care, seek and act on feedback to personalise care, and ensure it is informed by what matters to patients.
  • Deliver non-judgemental care that makes a real difference, as defined in our Health in Justice competency framework.

Experience: Essential and Desirable criteria are as seen in the job description.

  • Experience in hospital, community or prison environment is desirable but not essential.
