Job summary

We are delighted to invite applications for the Nicola Karayannis Colorectal Cancer Fellowship at University College London Hospital (UCLH). This 12-month NHS Fellowship in GI Medical Oncology combines advanced clinical training with translational and clinical research, with a focus on BRAF-mutant gastrointestinal cancers. The role provides 50% clinical experience within a multidisciplinary team and 50% protected research time, with flexibility to shape research priorities in line with team and institutional objectives. Fellows will gain exposure to complex GI oncology cases, clinical trials, and opportunities for authorship and academic output, contributing to innovation and compassionate care in memory of Nicola Karayannis.

Main duties of the job

This one-year Fellowship aims to develop future leaders in Oncology by integrating advanced clinical experience with translational and clinical research focused on BRAF mutations in gastrointestinal cancers.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Essential: Medical degree
  • Essential: Membership of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent
  • Essential: Eligible for full GMC registration at time of appointment and holding a current licence to practise
  • Essential: Knowledge of the NHS Clinical Governance framework (including Research governance) and understanding of changes in NHS organisation and management; ability to act within these parameters

Desirable

  • Completed core medical training or equivalent

Experience

  • Essential: Experience in medical oncology
  • Desirable: Experience of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Desirable: Clinical audit experience
