Working Hours: 35 hours per week
Contract: 2-year fixed term commencing September 2026
Do you want to work for an organisation that makes a lasting different for farmers in Wales?
Do you have what it takes to join one of the leading organisations representing Welsh and British farming and food production? Do you want to get experience of working in a high-profile organisation which is rarely out of the news?
NFU Cymru is the leading agricultural organisation in Wales, representing farmers and growers and championing Welsh food and farming. We work tirelessly to influence policy, engage stakeholders, and promote the interests of our members across Wales and beyond.
This NFU Cymru graduate programme offers a unique opportunity to gain experience in both policy development and communications. Over two years, you’ll work on projects that shape Welsh agriculture, from political lobbying and stakeholder engagement to delivering impactful communications campaigns.
You’ll support policy research, draft responses to Welsh Government consultations, and help create compelling content for digital and print channels. You’ll also assist with events and member engagement activities, gaining insight into one of Wales’ most important industries.
Join us and you’ll enjoy a wide variety of work in a collaborative atmosphere, with opportunities to connect with people across the organisation and beyond. All in an open, inclusive environment, where we all pull together to support our members.
In addition to working with this high impact in-house team, you will gain valuable experience working in one of the most important industries in the country – farming, which supplies the raw ingredients for Wales’ largest manufacturing sector, Welsh food and drink. You will gain an understanding of NFU Cymru, the agriculture and horticulture industries and the issues facing NFU Cymru members, in a comprehensive and purpose‑built programme which includes working across our Policy and Communications teams.
You will have or be predicted to have at least a 2:1 degree, or equivalent industry-related qualification, as well as the drive and determination to succeed both individually and as part of a team. Problem solving, planning skills and a flair for communication come naturally to you. The desire to represent and campaign on behalf of NFU Cymru members is crucial.
Our colleagues have diverse backgrounds, and no specific degree is a pre‑requisite for the role. You will learn a lot on the job, so we do not expect you to have a detailed knowledge of the agricultural sector or policy advocacy; however, we are looking for people who have an interest in the issues that shape food production, trade and markets, business and public/regulatory affairs. You’ll enjoy solving complex problems and working to achieve the best outcomes for our members who are at the heart of what we do. You will also need to be great at building strong relationships at all levels and be able to communicate your views effectively.
This role will be based at our NFU Cymru HQ, in Builth Wells. There will be placements in both our Policy and Communications teams during the 2-year programme. Successful candidates will need their own transport, as public transport is not frequently available to our NFU Cymru office and there may be requirements to travel across Wales and occasionally to our NFU HQ in Stoneleigh, Warwickshire.
Join us and you’ll find an organisation that encourages and enables you to achieve your full potential. In return you will be rewarded with a full range of benefits including:
The successful candidate must, by the start of their employment, have permission to work in the UK.
We’re committed to recruiting a diverse and highly–talented workforce. We’ll support you by providing you with extensive learning and development opportunities.
We encourage you to apply as possible. We reserve the right to withdraw this advert before the closing date.
