Job description

Youwill work as a vital member of the Inpatient Therapy Team at DanesburyNeurological Centre which specialises in the treatment and management of peoplewith acute neurological conditions. Working as part of the wider MDT, you will provide specialist occupational therapy assessment and treatment packages to patients with neurologicalrehabilitation needs, as well as deliver comprehensive discharge planning. Youwill provide expert advice, guidance and information to health and social careprofessionals, carers and relatives and other non-professionals.

Main duties of the job

To perform occupational therapeutic assessmentof patients who have a neurological condition with diverse physical andcognitive presentations, to provide a diagnosis and develop and deliver anindividualised treatment programme. To hold responsibility for own case load,working with supervision from a senior Occupational Therapist. Supervisiontakes the form of regular formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peerreview, case conferences and reflective practice. To undertake all aspects ofclinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.

Job responsibilities
  • To take delegated responsibility from senioroccupational therapists for managing patients with neurological conditions.
  • To be responsible for providing occupationaltherapy assessment and treatment plans for patients with stroke and othercomplex neurological conditions.
  • Represent occupational therapy service and/orindividual patients at the multi-disciplinary team meetings.
  • Ensure the delivery of a co-ordinatedmultidisciplinary service and integrate occupational therapy treatment into thetreatment programme. This will include discussion of individualised patient careand treatment packages, patient progress, self-management and health coachingapproaches, secondary prevention and lifestyle advice and involvement indischarge planning from Danesbury.
  • To be responsible for the safe and competentuse of all equipment used within the role. This will include walking aids,manual handling equipment, exercise equipment, electrotherapy equipment,splinting and orthotic devices and other patient appliances and aids. Check allequipment prior to use and report any faults to the relevant authority.
  • To be responsible fororganising and planning your own caseload to meet service and patientpriorities. To be adaptable and readjust plans as situations change/arise.

Qualifications
  • Diploma / Degree in Physiotherapy / Occupational therapy.
  • HCPC Registration.
  • UK NHS Experience.
  • Post registration experience in complex neurological conditions.
