Job summary

A leading consulting firm is seeking a Network Engineer (Associate) to support their infrastructure in a 24/7 operational environment. The role involves providing 2nd/3rd line support across LAN, WAN, and other network platforms. Candidates should have relevant experience in network engineering, particularly in configuration and support of network systems. Qualifications

  • Experience in 2nd/3rd line network engineering role.
  • Hands-on configuration and support of routers, switches, firewalls and WiFi.
  • Knowledge of VPNs, network security, and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain LAN, WAN, wireless, firewall, VPN, voice and video infrastructure.
  • Monitor network performance, availability and security.
  • Deliver BAU activities including patching, upgrades and break/fix.
  • Assist with incidents, changes and releases in line with ITIL practices.

Skills

2nd/3rd line network engineering experience
Hands-on configuration of routers, switches, firewalls, and WiFi
Knowledge of VPNs and network security
Understanding of MPLS and dynamic routing protocols
Experience supporting network deployments through full lifecycle
Familiarity with ITIL principles

Education

Networking qualification, degree or equivalent practical experience

Our Client is seeking a Network Engineer (Associate) to support, maintain and enhance our network infrastructure, working as part of a skilled technical team in a 24/7 operational environment. Digital, Data and Technology are responsible for transforming and supporting the organisation’s digital technology services. Within Operations, the Networks and Communications team delivers secure, resilient and high-performing network and communications services across the estate.

The Role

You will provide 2nd/3rd line network support, carrying out monitoring, maintenance, configuration and installation activities across LAN, WAN, wireless, firewall, voice and video platforms. You will support both business‑as‑usual operations and project delivery, ensuring services remain secure, available and performant.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support and maintain LAN, WAN, wireless, firewall, VPN, voice and video infrastructure
  • Monitor network performance, availability and security
  • Deliver BAU activities including patching, upgrades and break/fix
  • Assist with incidents, changes and releases in line with ITIL practices
  • Support network design and deployment activities aligned to high‑ and low‑level designs
  • Work collaboratively with cyber security, projects and service teams
  • Participate in an on‑call rota and attend offsite locations when required
Essential Skills and Experience
  • Experience in a 2nd/3rd line network engineering role
  • Hands‑on configuration and support of routers, switches, firewalls and WiFi
  • Knowledge of VPNs, network security and compliance
  • Understanding of MPLS and dynamic routing protocols (e.g. OSPF, BGP)
  • Experience supporting network deployments through full lifecycle
  • Familiarity with ITIL principles and incident/change management
  • Relevant networking qualification, degree, or equivalent practical experience
