Job description

Our client has a vacancy for a National Transport Manager to be responsible for facilitating an efficient and legally compliant logistics solution to satisfy the distribution needs of the Group. The National Transport Manager reports directly to the Procurement Director. Your role will include line management of two regional Transport Managers.

Job Roles and Responsibilities
  • To ensure all areas of the transport / logistics functions operate in a smooth, efficient, and cost‑effective manner to meet the business needs.
  • To manage and take responsibility for the Company's Operator Licences to ensure that:
    • all vehicles are operated in accordance with current Road Traffic Regulations;
    • all vehicles are maintained as per the Operator licence agreement;
    • the Operator licences are kept up to date;
    • driver licence checking system is in place ensuring all drivers are legal to drive ;
    • OCRS scores are maintained to a green standard.
  • To ensure the efficient and effective running of the Group's Transport Function by monitoring:
    • Staff utilisation.
    • Vehicle utilisation
    • Pay load vs target
    • Driver behaviours
    • Fuel costs / provider
    • Running cost
    • Overall budget
  • Work within, maintain and continuously improve the Group's Health & Safety standards and to ensure that all training is up to date and compliant.
  • Verify Transport invoices and authorise for payment and to investigate all negative variances.
  • To be responsible for the procurement, due diligence and sale of all LGV vehicles and trailers used within the Company.
  • To provide the directors with a 5-year capital expenditure plan.
  • To manage and develop the reports who in turn are responsible for the management of the company HGV drivers.
  • To take ownership of the relationship with and oversee the management and cost of 3rd party hauliers.
  • To ensure that all expenditure is undertaken in compliance with the Group Delegation of Authority Document.
  • To deal with staff issue that arise in accordance with disciplinary procedures.
  • To be responsible for recruitment and staff management.
  • To continually enhance and develop the transport operation in all areas.
  • To work closely with their direct reports to ensure all transports functions are carried out in line with the business needs.
  • To ensure that the high standards of service, quality and professionalism are always maintained.
  • To support the Group in all areas, as necessary.
  • To carry out any other reasonable duties as allocated by the Board of Directors.
  • To adhere to relevant risk assessments, safe systems of work and guidance in accordance with policies and procedures.
