CNC Recruitment is currently seeking a Multi Skilled Engineer to join our client in Chard area - a global leading food manufacturing.

Job type – Full Time, Permanent

Location – Chard area

Pay – From £50,000 P.A

Role Summary

Reporting to the Engineering and Projects Manager, you will perform both planned and reactive maintenance across the site. You will confidently diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical faults, support continuous improvement, and communicate effectively with departments to maintain smooth operations. You will champion a positive health and safety culture and be comfortable working both independently and within small teams. The role operates on a 4 on / 4 off shift pattern (typically 5am–5pm or 6am–6pm), with flexibility required during peak periods to support 24/7 site coverage.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform planned and reactive maintenance on production and packing machinery, ensuring optimal performance and minimal downtime.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues promptly to support operational efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and system modifications.
  • Oversee and maintain automated control systems to ensure accurate and efficient operation.
  • Co-ordinate maintenance schedules and routine repairs for machinery and site facilities.
  • Balance multiple priorities to meet deadlines, collaborating with other teams to optimise workflow.
  • Identify and implement process improvements, cost‑saving initiatives, and efficiency enhancements using lean principles.
  • Promote and uphold safe working practices, contributing to continuous improvement of site health and safety.
Essential
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) in English.
  • Proven problem‑solving ability and fault‑finding skills across mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Experience in equipment maintenance, process optimisation, and quality assurance within a production setting.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent observational skills.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment (food manufacturing and cheese production advantageous).
  • Excellent time‑management and prioritisation capability.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Desirable
  • Familiarity with energy‑efficiency and sustainability practices.
  • Practical, solutions‑focused approach to problem solving.
  • Collaborative mindset with stakeholder‑management experience.
  • Knowledge of automation and control systems (e.g., PLC programming).
  • Experience in designing or commissioning new lines or equipment upgrades.
  • Knowledge of the Shire maintenance system.
