Overview

MSK Physiotherapist - South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust. This is a full-time Band 6 post based across Kenilworth Clinic and Hospital of St Cross, Rugby. The closing date is 01 October 2025.

Main duties of the job

To provide a high standard physiotherapy service to patients in the specialist area and work as an autonomous practitioner, holding responsibility for own caseload. To work with the Pathway and Team leads in planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating the Physiotherapy service within the speciality on a day-to-day basis. To support and supervise less experienced staff and undergraduate students. To deputise for Team Leads as required. To maintain accurate records of patient contact using written records and electronic data capture. To contribute to out-of-hours working as required. To maintain personal competency to practise.

Job responsibilities

Clinical

  • Gain informed consent prior to assessment and treatment, in line with Trust policies on consent.
  • Undertake comprehensive physiotherapy assessments, including diverse or complex presentations; obtain relevant information by examination, observation, questioning and manual techniques.
  • Apply advanced clinical reasoning to diagnose and set rehabilitation objectives.
  • Formulate and deliver individual treatment programmes using evidence-based practice, including manual therapy, education, exercise programmes, electrotherapy, and other options; ensure competency to practise.
  • Evaluate progress, reassess, and adapt treatment plans as required.
  • Develop prognosis and discharge plans and determine appropriate referrals.
  • Make informed discharge decisions and/or refer to other services as needed.

Communication

  • Explain diagnoses and treatment plans to patients and carers to support understanding and adherence.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, carers, colleagues and professionals; maintain timely documentation in notes, letters and reports.
  • Assess patient understanding of proposed treatments and work within legal consent frameworks.

Educational

  • Participate in staff appraisal and CPD; maintain CPD records and develop a personal learning plan.
  • Be involved in in-service training and clinical supervision of less experienced staff and students.
  • Ensure safe use of equipment, with supervision and training as required.
  • Engage in measurement, data collection, and evaluation of practice through audits and outcomes.

Management/ Professional

  • Organise and plan own caseload to meet service priorities; adjust plans as needed.
  • Mentor and supervise junior staff and students; support MDT colleagues.
  • Identify improvements to the service and implement changes with senior support.
  • Maintain safe use of manual handling and equipment; ensure staff compliance with policies.
  • Be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work.
  • Work within Trust policies, CSP guidelines, and national standards; monitor quality of practice.
  • Promote high standards of work, morale, and inter-team collaboration; be the first point of contact for minor complaints per Trust policy.
  • Contribute to governance, risk management and incident reporting processes as required.
Qualifications
  • Degree or equivalent in physiotherapy
  • Member of the CSP
  • Registration with the HCPC
  • Post-graduate training relevant to the clinical fields within the specialisms
  • Evidence of well-rounded clinical experience within the relevant specialisms
Experience
  • Post-graduate experience as a rotational band 5 covering core areas within the specialisms
  • Experience in working as part of a Physiotherapy Team and MDT
  • Experience in clinical education/supervision of peers, students or less experienced staff
  • Involvement in clinical audit/research and quality improvements
  • Ability to deputise for seniors and act as a mentor to less experienced staff
Skills
  • Specialist knowledge within the post specialism, supported by experience and evidence
  • Broad knowledge of conditions and clinical governance and legal responsibilities
  • Clinical reasoning, problem solving and prioritisation abilities
  • Ability to produce accurate, legible documentation

  • Willingness to undergo enhanced DBS
