Job description
Job Description

Join the RAC. Together, we’re going places. You’ll work as a Mobile Mechanic in the Service, Maintenance and Repair division, delivering first‑class vehicle maintenance and diagnostic services directly to our customers—whether that’s on driveways or in office car parks.

You’ll be equipped from day one with your own RAC van, fuel card, full uniform, essential tools and a diagnostic kit. The role offers a competitive base salary of £38,625, with on‑target earnings of up to £50,000 and a guaranteed overtime option that can raise your base to £44,385.

Work hours are 40 hours per week, with core hours 8:30 am to 5 pm and shifts on one of every four Saturdays. You’ll enjoy a flexible, full‑time schedule that keeps you moving and out of the same four walls.

Benefits
  • Opportunity to increase earnings to £50,000 through bonuses and premium‑rate overtime
  • Guaranteed overtime available after your first month at £30 per hour for rest days (one extra day a month can add up to £3,000 per year; two extra days can add up to £5,000)
  • Full‑time 40‑hour week with Monday–Saturday availability (8 am–8 pm) for flexibility and stability
  • Free RAC Ultimate Complete Breakdown Service from day one
  • Access to a car salary sacrifice scheme (including electric vehicle options) after 12 months, delivering serious tax savings
  • 23 days of holiday (rising to 25 with service), plus bank holidays
  • Pension scheme with up to 6.5% matched contributions and life assurance cover up to 4× salary (10× optional with flex benefits)
  • 24/7 confidential support service for you and household members aged 16+
  • Exclusive discount portal (Orange Savings) with deals across top retailers, holidays, tools, tech and more
  • Automatic participation in the Colleague Share Scheme after probation
Responsibilities

You will be on the front line, travelling with your RAC van to meet customers wherever they are, diagnosing and repairing light vehicles, performing routine checks, and managing stock and reporting.

Beyond the technical work, you’ll build rapport with customers, providing advice and representing the RAC with pride. Each day will be different—servicing, diagnostics, repairs, and checks—so you’ll need to think on your feet and make the right call for each customer.

Qualifications
  • Level 2 light vehicle maintenance qualification (or equivalent)
  • At least 3 years’ hands‑on experience as a vehicle technician with a range of light vehicles
  • A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points
