Handyperson/Maintenance Technician

We are seeking a proactive and skilled Handyperson to join our Facilities team, providing essential maintenance services across key Healthcare and Education sites in the Dorset area. This is a vital role supporting the safety and functionality of important community buildings.

The Role at a Glance
  • Job Title: Handyperson / Facilities Support
  • Business Area: Healthcare and Education
  • Location: Dorset (Willingness to travel required)
  • Reports To: Senior Technician
  • Work Pattern: Must be willing to work shifts
Primary Responsibilities

Your main focus will be carrying out quick and effective minor maintenance and fabric repairs across the sites.

Site Maintenance & Repairs
  • Reactive Repairs: Handle minor building and fabric issues reported through the helpdesk within agreed timeframes.

  • Proactive Work: Carry out planned minor maintenance tasks (PPM) to keep the sites running smoothly.

  • Key Skills: Use your skills in joinery, basic plumbing (low level tasks), and general building work.

  • Safety Checks: Conduct critical tasks like monthly Legionella checks.

Building Upkeep & Safety
  • Daily Checks: Perform daily building walkthroughs (internal and external) to assess integrity and immediately report any faults.

  • Housekeeping: Ensure plant rooms and surrounding areas are kept clean and tidy.

  • Grounds: Assist with general grounds maintenance, including litter picking, emptying external bins, and general tidying.

  • Winter Safety: Undertake gritting of walkways and entrances during bad weather to ensure safe access for staff and the public.

  • Issue Resolution: Quickly attend to spills or site safety issues. Assist the cleaning team when necessary, including graffiti removal.

Support & Compliance
  • Technical Support: Follow instructions from Senior Technicians and take ownership of coordinating your allocated Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) tasks.

  • Contractor Management: Manage and monitor subcontractor visits, ensuring all safety documents (Risk Assessments) are adhered to.

  • Admin: Ensure all necessary documentation and administration related to your work is completed accurately and on time.

Qualifications & Skills Required
  • Proven skills in Joinery, Plumbing, General Building, and Fabric Repair.

  • Full UK Driving Licence (essential for travelling between sites).

  • Strong commitment to Health & Safety policies and safe working practices (COSHH, Risk Assessments).

  • Ability to work well with others (Collaborating) and be proactive (Contributing ideas).

  • A professional and proactive approach to client communication is essential.
