Mental Health Support Worker

Salary Scale: £82.80 to £100 per day

Start Date: ASAP/ September

Experience tutoring or teaching small groups?

GSL Education are excited to be recruiting a Mental Health Support Worker for a welcoming and forward-thinking school in Basingstoke. In this role, you will support the Class Teacher with all elements of the day-to-day running of the class and teach whole classes, groups and individual lessons in consultation with the Class Teacher regularly across a range of classes.

We are looking for a passionate and experienced individual to join our expanding team and to be part of this exciting new journey right from the start!

This specialist school based in Basingstoke are looking for a Mental Health Support Worker with experience of working with challenging children and young people. This is a specialist school that caters for young people who have been excluded or are at risk of being excluded from a mainstream school.

Key Responsibilities of a Mental Health Support Worker:

  • To support students who struggle with their class work
  • Facilitate a fun and friendly learning environment
  • To provide support to the class teacher
  • To help the class teacher prepare lesson materials and classroom boards
  • To keep the classroom a tidy and presentable environment
  • To encourage children to do their best
  • Help manage classroom behaviour
  • Listen to the children read and practice their phonics

Qualifications & Skills required for Mental Health Support Worker:

  • Experience working with children with special educational needs, particularly those with autism or social and emotional needs (preferred, not essential).
  • Experience working with SEN (in school, care, or voluntary settings) preferred, not essential
  • Knowledge of and experience with behaviour management strategies.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate effectively with parents and other professionals.
  • A patient and nurturing approach to working with children.
  • Ability to adapt and be flexible in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development in SEN practices and strategies.

  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last 2 years.
  • Have a DBS registered to the update service or be happy to apply for one with GSL Education
