Mental Health Assistant/Aspiring Therapist – Reading

Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with their mental health and emotional wellbeing?

Role & Setting

An inclusive and forward-thinking SEN and SEMH school in Reading is seeking a Mental Health Assistant to join their dedicated team. This full-time, long-term role is ideal for individuals who want to make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable children and young people.

You will be working with students aged 5 to 19 who may have Autism, ADHD, anxiety, trauma-related behaviours, and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. As a Mental Health Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils with their emotional regulation, self-esteem, behaviour, and engagement in learning.

Key Details
  • Location: Reading
  • Salary: £89-£100 per day
  • Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
  • Ideal for: Psychology, Counselling, Education, or Criminology graduates, or anyone passionate about mental health and child development
Responsibilities
  • Help implement therapeutic and trauma-informed practices within the classroom setting to help students manage anxiety and build confidence.
  • Work closely with SEN professionals, therapists and teachers to ensure consistent care and create a safe, calm and nurturing environment for students to thrive.
  • Support students with emotional regulation, behaviour, and engagement in learning.
