A healthcare provider in Prudhoe is seeking a Medicines Administrator responsible for managing patient repeat prescriptions and audits. You will guarantee effective communication within the healthcare team while striving to improve quality and accuracy in medication management. Candidates should have strong organizational skills and experience in primary care. This role offers a collaborative working environment with a dedicated team.
As a Medicines Administrator you will be expected to:-
Be the main provision of patient-friendly repeat prescribing, audits, stocktake and ordering of vaccines and medical consumables.
You will contribute to the efficiency and quality improvement of the service to both patients and clinicians by putting into place processes that minimize the chance of error, reduce medicine wastage, and improve the quality and accuracy of the practice repeat prescriptions.
You will undertake various administrative duties which contribute to the smooth running of the Practice.
Ensure communication to and from patients, other members the primary care team and external agencies is processed accurately and within the necessary timescales.
The principal duties and responsibilities of a Medicines Administrator include all of the items listed below. Although this list is not exhausted.
To deal with non-routine queries.
To liaise with partners, salaried GPs, practice managers and other health professionals.
To collect and submit monthly data to monitor improvements in line with medicine management objectives and CCG targets.
To generate the prescriptions for patients on dossete boxe medication and repeat dispensing liaise with local pharmacies.
Dealing with pharmacy, patient queries efficiently and promptly.
PPA returns
Ordering of vaccines, stock and consumables.
Implementing hospital medication requests promptly
Communicating to patients with regards to medication reviews
Repeat prescribing
Attend practice MMs, and provide input to the Prescribing Lead
Ensure the 48-hr turnaround of repeat prescriptions
We are situated in the beautiful Tyne Valley 10 miles west of Newcastle in a purpose built modern facility with approximately 6000 patients.
We have five doctors, two practice nurses and two HCAs, as a team, we value one another and we enjoy good close working relationships. We share our building with our district nurses, health visitors, midwives, physios and podiatrists which works well.
Job responsibilities
To make changes to a patients prescription in line with the appropriate protocol and guidance, after agreement sought with doctors.
To reauthorise patient medication in line with the appropriate protocols
To add medication according to protocols for hospital letters as directed by a doctor.
To undertake proactive 'housekeeping' management of the repeat prescribing process, including compliance, in accordance with practice protocol.
To deal with non-routine queries that require follow up and problem solving techniques
To liaise with partners, practice managers and health professionals to develop and implement systems and protocols to improve medicine management in the practice
To maintain comprehensive records of work undertaken
To collect and submit monthly data to monitor improvements in line with medicine management objectives and targets.
To ensure that patients attend for monitoring for certain drugs as per protocol. Running own reports from the clinical system to support this work.
To generate the prescriptions for the patients on dosette box medication and repeat dispensing and liaise with the pharmacies regarding these where necessary.
Understanding and implementing medication requests from hospitals.
Apply judgement in assessing queries to determine best course of action
Dealing with pharmacy, patient and nursing home queries efficiently and promptly.
Understanding of PPA returns
To be a part of the annual Flu campaign and contribute to the organisation, searches and audits of vaccines.
Implementing requests and data entry forms from District Nursing Team
Implementing hospital medication requests promptly
Provide advice on prescription charges and exemptions
Communicating to patients with regards to medication reviews
Repeat prescribing
New patient medication checks
Attend regular medicine management meetings
Attend practice clinical meetings and provide input to the Prescribing Lead when required
Carry out searches for regular audits
Contribute to the updating of protocols and policies
Ensure the 48-hr turnaround of repeat prescriptions
To implement other duties as requested by management
Organise own workload and work under indirect supervision.
To manage time effectively ensuring all targets are met.
Communication:
To be the first point of contact for patients, community pharmacists, Nursing Home staff and other healthcare professionals who have queries relating to repeat prescriptions
Maintain patient confidentiality at all times in accordance with our GDPR policy and Caldicott guidelines
Utilise appropriate systems to communicate information to colleagues and patients
Communicate work procedures with colleagues
