Job description
Responsibilities
  • Provide an effective and efficient Senior Medical Secretary role to named Consultants within the Trauma & Orthopaedic service.
  • Provide senior medical secretarial service directly to named Consultants.
  • Ensure RTT (18 week pathway) status is recorded accurately and up to date.
  • Collate information for clinical audits if required.
  • Undertake medical audio/copy typing duties, including outpatient letters to General Practitioners and any other official correspondence such as reports.
  • Arrange appointments as required.
  • Arrange special tests requested by the Consultant or Junior Medical Staff.
  • Colate and manage investigation results.
  • Obtain relevant investigation results from PACS and Intranet result service.
  • Deal with day‑to‑day incoming mail, assigning priority and/or taking necessary action without reference to Consultant staff if necessary and within remit.
  • Ensure patient pathways are updated as appropriate.
  • Respond to enquiries received from GPs, other health personnel, patients and relatives.
  • Maintain patient records and track notes electronically in a manner acceptable to the Trust.
  • Use Evolve and other electronic patient notes systems.
  • Observe absolute confidentiality of all information obtained in the course of your work.
  • Liaise with Health Records/Appointments staff regarding outpatient clinic numbers, urgent appointments and Consultant/Junior Medical Staff annual leave.
  • Actively participate in the introduction and use of information technology.
  • Cover, as practical, other secretarial team members' absences.
  • Undertake any other duties as may be required, in accordance with the needs of the service.

As a team player you will be responsible for providing a full secretarial service to the Trauma & Orthopaedic service within the Division. The post holder will be required to use computerised systems such as Patient Centre (Patient Administration System) Advantis and the Winscribe Digital dictation system.
