Job description

Birchwood Medical Centre is seeking an experienced, conscientious, flexible and reliable part‑time receptionist/patient adviser to join our busy reception team.

This is a part‑time post working 20 hours per week as follows:

Thursday 8.30 am - 3.30 pm (with half hour break)

You will also be required to help cover for colleagues on annual/sick leave. The practice opening times are 8.00 am to 6.30 pm.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant must have:

  • Have ability to work as part of a team or alone with minimum supervision
About us

Birchwood Medical Centre is a busy GP practice with 11,000 patients. We have 3 GP partners and 7 salaried GP's, an ANP, practice nurses, a nursing associate, HCA/phlebotomists and an expanding complement of ARRs staff. Our administrative team consists of receptionists, administrators, scanning/coding administrators and medical secretaries.

We strive to deliver the best care at all times for our patients whilst providing a friendly, caring environment for both our patients and staff.

Job responsibilities

Reception

  • Ensurean effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients andany other visitors to the Practice
  • Dealwith general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow‑up appointments
  • Process System Connect online appointment requests
  • Useown judgement and communication skills to ensure that patients with noprior appointment but who need urgent consultation are seen in a logicaland non‑disruptive manner
  • ExplainPractice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and thoseseeking temporary cover and ensure procedures are completed
  • Handingcompleted repeat prescriptions or letters/forms to patient and checking IDto ensure confidentiality is strictly maintained in line with GDPR andpractice guidance
  • Beable to cover all reception tasks as necessary

Appointments

  • Processand triage appointment requests for today/future appointments frompatients via System Connect, telephone and in person.
  • Dealwith visits requests
  • Help to improve accessto primary care for patients and reduce pressures upon GPs
  • Provide clearinformation about the range of services available both inside and outsidethe practice to give real choice to patients allowing them to consideralternative services that best meettheir health and social care needs
  • Provide patients with afirst point of contact that directs them to the most appropriate source ofhelp, at the right time, in theright place with the most relevant person/organisation

Computer

  • Usepractice computer system to book/cancel/amend appointments, check patientinformation, enter relevant information onto patient records, etc
  • Actiontasks sent to reception team
