A healthcare provider in Prudhoe seeks a Medical Receptionist to manage daily administrative tasks, support patients, and assist the healthcare team. The ideal candidate will have strong IT skills, experience in customer care, and ability to work in a busy environment. This role offers £12.60 per hour with opportunities for flexible working hours.
This is a role established to support the practice in carrying out day-to-day activities and to provide general assistance to the practice team projecting a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.
Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.
The role also includes important administrative duties such as booking appointments, dealing with samples and prescriptions, updating patient records and other tasks that contribute to the smooth running of the practice.
The position is suitable for someone who wishes to demonstrate initiative with a desire to develop their own skills.
The main purpose of the job is to provide reception and administrative support to the GP Practice to enable the medical and nursing staff to provide an effective, efficient, and caring service to the practice population.
The reception area at the surgery is currently open 8:00am 6:00pm Monday to Friday each week. The medical reception staff have various duties which include manning the reception desk, dealing with queries from both patients and outside agencies alongside other administration tasks.
The post is essential for the smooth running of the practice and excellent customer service skills are required.
We are situated in the beautiful Tyne Valley 10 miles West of Newcastle in a purpose built modern facility with approximately 6000 patients.
We have five doctors, two practice nurses and two HCAs, as a team, we value one another and we enjoy good close working relationships. We share our building with our district nurses, health visitors, midwives, physios and podiatrists which works well.
The Medical receptionist will be required to:
Greet patients and book them into the computer system on arrival. (Systmone).
Direct patients to clinical rooms when called.
Taking in prescription requests whilst on reception.
Notify patients if clinics are running late.
Answer the phones & deal with all enquiries.
Book and amend appointments.
Deal with enquiries from other healthcare professionals and other agencies as requested in an efficient manner.
Completion of forms as requested.
Extract notes and patients' summaries from computer.
Register new patients following the practice protocol.
Administration tasks such as completing registrations, deductions, booking interpreters.
To bring to the attention of the Practice Management team all complaints, compliments, comments, and suggestions.
To report any adverse/untoward incidents to the Clinical Systems Administrator or Practice Manager.
To ensure that any accidents/ or near misses are recorded in the accident book and relayed to the appropriate person(s).
Dealing with emergency calls or taking requests for urgent house calls and notifying the appropriate person(s).
Attend to patients when an emergency arises in the practice & notify Doctor/Nurse immediately.
Completing morning and evening checklist such as adding the clinicians' names to their clinics, replacing stock, and turning computers on/off.
Assist in the induction and or training of a new member of staff.
Take in monies from patients for insurance reports/ private medicals etc and to record all monies coming into the practice in line with protocol.
Room stocking and stock control.
Participate in practice meetings.
Attend courses as agreed with the Management team.
To undertake training, including statutory and mandatory training and to meet personal development needs.
General housekeeping of the waiting room and reception areas.
At all times provide a caring service and to treat those with whom they come into contact in a courteous and respectful manner.
Demonstrate their commitment by the efficient completion of all tasks allocated to them.
Ensure building security; have a thorough knowledge of doors/windows/alarm processes.
Effectively manage own time, workload and resources.
