Job description
Overview

The Medical Physics & Clinical Engineering Department incorporating Medical Electronics and Medical Engineering sits within the Estates Directorate. We are seeking a highly motivated and organised individual to work as a Medical Engineer.

Medical Engineering is primarily concerned with providing maintenance to a wide range of highly complex diagnostic and therapeutic medical equipment both within the Trust and in other Trusts by arrangement. Such equipment embraces electrical, electronic, and mechanical and software based technologies requiring both broad and specialist knowledge.

The post holder will provide administrative and technical support generally to department and end user staff. The quality of service and response is crucial; the post holder will communicate effectively with clinical staff, suppliers, manufacturers, contracts and procurement staff regarding maintenance of medical equipment acting as a first contact for advice. This role is of vital importance and will require the individual to be proactive and highly organised, continually striving for service improvements. You will provide outstanding customer service to our service users, taking a "can do" approach to duties, and demonstrate good communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organisation.

The post holder will provide a high quality preventative maintenance, repair, calibration, safety and acceptance testing service on beds, trolleys, patient hoists, mattress pumps and other patient care equipment in acute and community hospitals, including electrical and mechanical equipment. The post holder will also be responsible for the regular cleaning and decontamination of specialist mattresses.

In addition the post holder will provide technical advice and training on both general and highly specialized equipment to ensure safe and efficient use by others. They will liaise with and negotiate with clinical staff, suppliers, manufacturers, and contracts and procurement staff over the selection and maintenance of medical equipment acting as a first contact for advice.

Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust provides a range of medical services to approximately 490,000 people living across southwest London and northeast Surrey. We serve an area that is rich in diversity, with a mix of urban and rural areas, and differing levels of quality of life. We cover some of the most prosperous postcodes in the country, as well as some poorer areas. Together with our colleagues at NHS Surrey and NHS Sutton and Merton, we work to make sure that we deliver the best possible care to the communities we serve. The Trust employs approximately 5,000 staff across its hospitals and is supported by over 500 volunteers.

The post holder will deliver high-quality preventative maintenance, repair, calibration, safety checks, and acceptance testing services for beds, trolleys, patient hoists, mattress pumps, and other patient care equipment across acute and community hospitals. This includes both electrical and mechanical equipment. Additionally, the post holder will be responsible for the regular cleaning and decontamination of specialist mattresses.
