Ready to power the future? We're hiring a Mechanical Technician!

Want to build more than just a career? Help us build the future of battery production. INITION is on a mission to revolutionize battery production beyond the Dry Process, and we're looking for a passionate Mechanical Technician to join our innovative R&D team in Oxford.

If you thrive on hands-on work and want to see your efforts directly contribute to groundbreaking technology, we want to hear from you. You'll be the bridge between our mechanical engineering and electrochemistry teams, turning brilliant ideas into tangible prototypes and making them work, day in, day out.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a hands-on, proactive Mechanical Technician to supercharge our Mechanical and Electrochemistry teams. You will support both teams in ensuring the mechanical functions of Inition Energy are running as smoothly and efficiently as possible.

What you'll do as a Mechanical Technician:

  • Fabrication: Perform basic fabrication tasks (e.g., cutting, drilling, grinding, simple welding) as required for repairs or modifications.
  • Process Improvement: Work closely with engineers to identify opportunities for mechanical improvements, modifications, and upgrades to enhance equipment performance, reliability, safety, and efficiency.
  • Prototyping Support: Provide hands-on mechanical support for R&D projects and new equipment builds, assisting engineers with design validation and experimental rig setup.
  • Troubleshooting & Diagnostics: Efficiently diagnose mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic faults in complex custom-built machinery using schematics, manuals, and diagnostic tools to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
  • Assembly & Installation: Assemble, install, commission, and modify new and existing mechanical components and sub-assemblies for our pilot line and R&D rigs, ensuring precise fit and function according to engineering drawings.
  • Hands-on Maintenance & Repair: Perform routine preventive and corrective maintenance on a variety of mechanical and electromechanical systems, including pumps, valves, conveyors, mixers, roll-to-roll systems, ensuring maximum efficiency and uptime.
  • Safety & Compliance: Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies, ensuring a safe working environment at all times.
  • Collaboration: Work effectively with cross-functional Mechanical and Electrochemistry teams.
What we're looking for in a Mechanical Technician:
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Maintenance Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience (3+ years) as a Mechanical Technician, Maintenance Technician, or Mechanical Fitter in a manufacturing, R&D, or process-driven environment.
  • Strong hands-on mechanical aptitude with excellent fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Experience with precision assembly, alignment, and calibration of mechanical components.
  • Familiarity with various types of pumps, valves, fluidic systems, and motion control components.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A strong commitment to safety and quality.

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Experience in the battery, roll-to-roll, industrial manufacturing, materials processing, or chemical industries.
  • Knowledge of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) or similar quality systems.
  • Basic electrical troubleshooting skills (e.g., multimeter use, sensor checks).
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing or 5S methodologies.
Why you'll love working with us:
  • Be on the Front Line of Innovation: Your work will directly impact the development of next-generation battery technology.
  • Grow With Us: We offer dedicated funds for professional development, mentorship from senior engineers, and clear career pathways.
  • Excellent Rewards: We offer a competitive salary, a performance bonus, comprehensive health benefits, and a generous pension scheme.
  • A Culture of Collaboration: Join a brilliant, supportive, and driven team that is passionate about its mission.
