Job Title: Mechanical Stress Engineer

Location: Stockport

Contract: Permanent

Salary: £50 - £55k basic + Benefits

Overview

We are seeking a talented Mechanical Stress Engineer to join a leading engineering and manufacturing organisation. The successful candidate will play a key role in the Engineering team, performing technical analysis, developing concepts, and supporting both in-house and outsourced engineering activities. This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate engineer with a minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar manufacturing environment to develop their career in a hands‑on, high‑integrity engineering role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take responsibility for the structural integrity of manufactured products, ensuring compliance with specifications, safety, legislative, and environmental requirements
  • Perform stress analysis, fatigue evaluation, and design calculations, including non‑linear FEA
  • Write test specifications, acceptance criteria, and reporting documentation
  • Work to specified design criteria and applicable standards
  • Oversee in‑house and outsourced engineering activities, performing design reviews for fabricated metallic products
  • Liaise with clients to verify project scope and ensure deliverables
  • Prepare and manage project programmes, workloads, and resources
  • Investigate, evaluate, and resolve issues with non‑conforming products
  • Support problem‑solving and continuous improvement initiatives
Essential Requirements
  • Engineering degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Mechanical or Aerospace)
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment
  • Chartered status IMechE/IStructE desirable
  • Strong understanding of structural behaviour, material properties, and fabrication processes
  • Proven experience with FEA simulatione.g., ANSYS) and structural integrity/fatigue assessment
  • Strong understanding of Aluminium properties
  • Familiarity with Eurocodes and relevant design standards
  • Competent in 3D modelling software (e.g., Solid Edge, SpaceClaim)
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation, drawings, and specifications
  • Experience with design validation, simulation, and testing (including strain gauging)
  • Excellent IT skills, analytical thinking, and problem‑solving abilities

  • Willingness to travel within the UK and overseas
  • Full driving license
