Job description

We have a career growth opportunity for a Mechanical Project Engineer to join our team at Galliford Try, working on our Wessex Water Frameworks within the Environment Business.

What you will be doing
  • Reporting to the Project Manager, you will support the management and delivery of wastewater non‑infrastructure projects from early scoping through to construction completion, including site investigations, initial surveys, and developing construction and design strategies.
  • Support the full project lifecycle: planning, investigation, design, construction and hand‑over.
  • Develop and manage operational documentation for the construction phase.
  • Secure all required external permits and approvals for construction to begin.
  • Engage and manage subcontractors through investigation, design and build stages.
  • Serve as a key point of contact between the client, third‑party stakeholders and internal teams to ensure effective scheduling and communication.
  • Attend and contribute to design, progress and site meetings, monitoring programme progress and project costs.
  • Participate in internal and external programme reviews and input into financial reporting (e.g., Cost to Complete, budget tracking).
  • Use the company's Common Data Environment (CDE) to follow and maintain established delivery processes and procedures.
  • Mentor and support junior team members, helping to develop skills and promote a collaborative working environment.
Qualifications
  • Previous experience of infrastructure project delivery and appropriate Mechanical qualifications.
  • Understanding of NEC 4 contractual requirements.
  • A strong awareness of sustainable development and the company’s commitments.
  • Extensive sound knowledge of current legislation and the ability to work in accordance with QA and H&S procedures, with awareness and understanding of CDM.
  • Excellent time‑management skills, with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills, the ability to present points for discussion and provide constructive feedback.
  • Demonstrated teamwork, diversity awareness, and a commitment to team objectives.
