Job Vacancy - Mechanical Pre-Construction Director

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Position Summary

As a result of continued demand, we have a full-time permanent position for a Mechanical Pre-Construction Director to join our team in Llantrisant, Cardiff. We design, specify & install the Mechanical and Electrical services for a multitude of projects in the Commercial, Industrial, Government and Healthcare sector and have an excellent reputation for delivery, quality and reliability of their services.

Required to lead our company's pre‑construction phase for mechanical projects, overseeing mechanical design, value engineering, and bid submissions to ensure projects are feasible, commercially viable, and compliant with specifications from conception through final design. This senior role requires extensive technical expertise in mechanical systems and regulations, strong leadership to manage design teams, and excellent communication skills to foster relationships with clients and stakeholders throughout the pre‑construction process.

Responsibilities
  • Design Coordination: Lead the mechanical design process, working with design partners and internal teams to ensure designs meet client requirements and industry standards.
  • Technical Oversight: Provide strong technical knowledge to ensure all designs and contracts comply with specifications, drawings, and regulations.
  • Value Engineering: Rationalise designs to improve buildability, efficiency, and commercial viability.
  • Bid & Commercial Support: Work with the commercial team to ensure financial certainty in bid submissions and support the procurement of plant and subcontractors.
  • Risk Management: Develop project scopes and delivery plans, track performance, and manage risks to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Client & Stakeholder Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and other stakeholders during the pre‑construction phase.

  • Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of mechanical systems, regulations, and the construction process.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead and motivate internal teams, design partners, and contractors.
  • Commercial Acumen: Understanding of commercial viability, cost control, and profitability.

Experience

Proven track record as a Mechanical Pre‑Construction Director in Construction or Building Services.

Previous experience of providing & leading a team to successfully win & deliver major building projects. Ability to build & motivate a team through great leadership qualities – collaborative, self‑motivated, enthusiastic, committed to delivering sustainable outcomes. Excellent technical reputation & ability to interface with clients ensuring the team delivers on & is recognised for technical excellence & design quality. Knowledge of our markets, ability to build on current client relationships & a desire to establish new client contacts.
