Position overview

The Mechanical Front End Team Leader will organise and provide leadership to their team to ensure they deliver high quality cans with minimal spoilage, achieve required production efficiencies, and operate in a safe, cost-effective, environmentally sustainable manner, covering tooling and machinery aspects.

Responsibilities
  • Control tooling and maintenance spend to budget, reduce working capital of tooling and spare parts
  • Provide innovative sustainable cost saving plans, manage tooling development/improvement projects in the Front End and Toolroom
  • Work with maintenance software and data to drive operational decisions
  • Lead a team of up to 7 people, and own leadership activities including managing appraisals, motivating the team, training and development of the team. Provide and organise training to ensure the team is competent in all aspects of their jobs.
  • Ensure safe working practices are adhered to at all times and good housekeeping and safety awareness is continuously improved in the designated work area and throughout the team.
  • Meet Production, Quality, Spoilage and environmental improvement targets as set by the Shift Manager, the Continuous Improvement teams and the Plant budget.
  • Liase with the engineering department to ensure all maintenance work is completed to their satisfaction and continually look for methods to reduce breakdowns. World class manufacturing status is the ultimate goal.
  • Set up effective communication links with the team leaders on the other shifts. Co-ordinate actions to effectively utilise downtime. Operate effectively with other Team Leaders to control the overall performance of the plant.
What are we looking for?
  • Engineering qualifications, mechanical background with mechanical breakdown experience
  • Previous Team Leader experience is required, ideally you will be a leader with 3 to 5 years experience within a manufacturing environment
  • Salary: £56,897.90 increasing to £63,220.58 upon completion of the training matrix
  • This role involves shift work – 12 hour shifts, working days, nights and weekends (2 weeks day shift, 2 weeks night shift)
  • Team player, proactive, service minded approach
  • Experience with hydraulic machines, understanding of tooling geometry and tool room experience is essential as is an understanding of theoretical tooling design and the can forming process
