Night Shift Mechanical Fitter
Location: Colwick, Nottingham
Employment Type: Permanent
Salary: £22 per hour (Overtime Available)
Shift Pattern: 4 on / 4 off, 12-hour night shifts (typically 6 PM - 6 AM)
We are hiring Night Shift Mechanical Fitters to support the safe and efficient running of critical heavy machinery at a fast-growing industrial site. With one engineer moving to days, we are expanding the night team to ensure smooth operations and strong shift handovers. Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventive maintenance on equipment including shredders, magnets, conveyor belts, rollers, drive gearboxes, motors, baling machines, and hydraulic systems.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical faults quickly to minimise downtime during night operations.
- Support the installation, assembly, and commissioning of new equipment and modifications to existing machinery.
- Maintain clear maintenance logs and communicate effectively with the day shift team for seamless handovers.
- Work collaboratively with night and day teams, as well as production staff, to maintain operational continuity.
Experience Required
- Essential: Proven experience in mechanical fitting or maintenance within a heavy industry setting – you know your way around tough machinery.
- Essential: Confident reading mechanical drawings and getting hands-on with fault finding and repairs.
- Essential: Comfortable working independently on night shifts, keeping equipment running smoothly when it matters most.
- Desirable: Previous experience with hydraulic fittings, baling machines, and conveyor systems.
- Desirable: 70/30 mechanical/electrical skillset beneficial.
- Desirable: Experience in waste or recycling sectors preferred.
- Desirable: IOSH, First Aid, or similar safety certifications.
