Job Title: Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

We are a long-established, industry-leading organisation operating across multiple UK sites, specialising in large-scale materials processing and recovery. With five sites nationwide and a strong presence across the Midlands, South East and South West, our Cheshire facility is the only site within the northern region and plays a key role in our UK operations.

The Role for the mechanical maintenance engineer

We are looking for a mechanically biased Maintenance Engineer to join our busy Cheshire site. This is a hands‑on, fast‑paced role in a heavy industrial environment, supporting both planned and reactive maintenance across a wide range of processing equipment.

You will be involved in maintaining and improving machinery used to receive, process, separate and prepare materials for onward distribution. This includes equipment such as conveyors, vibratory feeders, sorters and other plant machinery integral to our multi‑stage processing operation.

Key Responsibilities for the mechanical maintenance engineer
  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance across site machinery.
  • Troubleshoot and repair conveyor systems, gearboxes, belts, bearings, chains, motors and pneumatic systems.
  • Support the operation of advanced colour‑sorting technology and other automated equipment.
  • Perform fabrication and welding duties (MIG, TIG or Stick).
  • Assist with maintenance on equipment used to separate mixed materials including metals, paper and various product streams.
  • Work safely within a challenging, industrial environment.
What We're Looking For in mechanical maintenance engineer
  • Strong mechanical engineering background; experience in heavy or less‑clean environments preferred over FMCG.
  • Competency in welding (MIG, TIG or Stick).
  • Experience working with conveyor systems and associated mechanical components.
