Role includes standby rota payments and overtime opportunities; potential earnings can increase by up to £8,000–£10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training.

We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical & Electrical Technician to join the Water Operations team at the Orpington Water Treatment Works (WTW).

Responsibilities
  • Investigate plant failures and carry out repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to avoid interruptions to the process. This may involve diagnosing complex faults and performing repairs during incidents.
  • Provide technical advice, refer to up-to-date knowledge, and offer training or support for technical trainees if required.
  • Work on equipment such as motors, gearboxes, conveyors, pumps, control gear, 3-phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems (VSDs, valves, flow, level and pressure measurement), programmable logic controllers, variable speed drives and controls, chemical handling, and dosing equipment.
  • Complete statutory checks as required.
  • Maintain a strong commitment to safety and compliance with Health and Safety guidance and procedures.
  • Be prepared to receive training on the water treatment process.

Base Location: Orpington, Kent - BR6 0SQ

Working Pattern: 38 Hours Monday–Friday 7:30 AM – 3:36 PM. Standby rota payments and overtime opportunities may increase earnings by up to £8,000–£10,000 per annum after completing essential training.

What you should bring to the role

To thrive in this role, essential criteria include:

  • Time-served apprentice or significant experience in electrical systems in a true multi-skilled capacity. Prior experience in an electrical apprenticeship is preferable.
  • ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ or C&G Level 3 in mechanical engineering with upskill qualification in mechanical NVQ2/3 and 18th Edition.
  • Upskilled mechanical qualification to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair mechanical and electrical plant equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety issues.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces with training completed as required.
  • Valid driving licence.
