Job summary

A manufacturing company in Newport is hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer to produce 3D and 2D designs and collaborate with manufacturing teams. Ideal candidates have a degree in Mechanical Engineering and experience with CAD software like SolidWorks. This permanent role offers between £30,000 and £35,000 per annum, based on experience.

ROLE - Mechanical Design Engineer

LOCATION- Newport

TERM- Permanent

SALARY- 30,000 - 35,000 per annum, dependent on experience

My client is a manufacturer of specialist products for a variety of sectors, and they are looking to take on a Mechanical Design Engineer on a permanent basis in the Newport area.

Graduates are also being considered for this role.

The Design Engineer will ideally have the following attributes:

  • Degree / HNC / HND / BTEC / NVQ qualified in Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • Previous experience in a similar role in a manufacturing environment
  • Be proficient using 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks
  • Good theoretical mechanical engineering knowledge of core principles and tight tolerances
  • Have the ability to work well alone as well as part of a small multi-disciplinary team
  • Have the ability to carry out mechanical calculations
  • Any previous experience of working with process machinery or steel / metal materials would be desirable
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Proficient using MS Office
  • Excellent organisational skills and time management skills


The Design Engineer role will involve:

  • Working within the current engineering team with other Design Engineers
  • Producing 3D designs using Autodesk Inventor CAD software and 2D designs with AutoCAD
  • Liaising with manufacturing providers
  • Being involved in final assembly of products
  • Creating the required documentation for design as well as project reports / plans
  • Updating 3D models and drawings
  • Inputting parts into the MRP system creating BOMs
  • Checking drawings for sign off
  • Working in a small multi-disciplinary team on varied projects
