Job summary

A leading engineering firm in Rugby is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design and development of turbine and valve products. The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering and experience with CAD software. You will be involved in design processes, ensuring compliance with safety standards and leading design reviews. British Passport Holders only, due to the nature of work with UK Defence customers.

Qualifications

  • Experience designing valves, particularly the sizing of components.
  • Knowledge of rotating equipment and rotor dynamics is desirable.
  • Turbine experience is preferred but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and design mechanical components and systems (turbines & valves).
  • Prepare technical drawings and specifications using CAD software.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Lead and execute design reviews with internal and external stakeholders.

Mechanical Design Engineer

The Role

My client are looking to expand their Naval Engineering team, by employing two permanent Mechanical Design Engineers. You will be supporting activities that contribute to the design and development of products, solutions and systems. In particular, turbine design and valves. You may also be involved in activities linked to technical improvement of existing products and components. Due to the nature of my clients work with UK Defence customers, all candidates must be British Passport Holders.

Main Responsibilities
  • Develop and design mechanical components and systems (turbines & valves).
  • Design for manufacture and assembly, ensuring quality of design information supplied for manufacture.
  • Prepare technical drawings and specifications using CAD software.
  • Collaborate with cross–functional teams including: Manufacturing, Engineering & Sourcing, as well as external sources to arrive at decisions.
  • Support prototyping, manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during design, production and testing.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations and company procedures.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and production.
  • Write comprehensive engineering reports.
  • Lead and execute design reviews with both internal and external stakeholders.
The Candidate
  • Ideally hold a Bachelor s degree in Mechanical Engineer preferred but not essential.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD software, CATIA V5 would be adventitious but not essential.
  • Turbine experience would be preferred but not essential.
  • Must have experience designing Valves, particularly experience in the sizing of components.
  • Knowledge and appreciation of rotating equipment and rotor dynamics is desirable.
  • Strong communication, problem solving and organisation skills.
