Overview
Our client, a long–established and respected engineering manufacturer near Dudley, is recruiting a Design Engineer to join their innovative R&D team. The company designs and produces high–quality fittings and valve solutions for sectors including domestic, commercial, industrial, HVAC, and marine. They focus on continuous improvement and technical excellence and are investing in product innovation and manufacturing capabilities to support growth.
Responsibilities
- Originate innovative design concepts in response to new product briefs provided by the Marketing team.
- Develop concepts into fully engineered products, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, cost efficiency, and suitability for manufacturing.
- Review existing and proposed products to identify opportunities for design improvements and cost reductions.
- Collaborate with cross–functional teams and attend development and project meetings as required.
- Work closely with Marketing, Manufacturing, and other departments to develop effective and practical product solutions.
- Contribute to brainstorming sessions and idea generation activities to address industry challenges and create original product propositions.
- Play an active, hands–on role in the manufacture and testing of prototype products to refine and validate new concepts.
- Support internal and external stakeholders by providing expert responses to technical queries across the business.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years' experience in CAD design (ideally Autodesk Inventor), with strong proficiency in creating detailed component and assembly drawings.
- Practical, hands–on approach to engineering – not just desk–based design, but actively involved in prototyping, testing, and developing physical products.
- Proven experience in product development and design of components such as fittings, bearings, fasteners, or similar parts used in assembled products.
- Degree or HNC in Mechanical Engineering or a CAD–related discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to generate original design concepts and develop them into production–ready products.
- Solid understanding of manufacturing processes and practical knowledge of design for manufacture (DFM).
- Background in new product development within a manufacturing environment, with knowledge of materials and material applications.
- Familiarity with plumbing fittings or similar mechanical components is advantageous but not essential.
- Knowledge of simulation tools such as ANSYS is advantageous.
Salary & Benefits
- Salary GBP32,000 – GBP37,000
- Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with core hours between 09:00 – 15:00
