Sodexo is seeking a resilient and motivated Teacher of English and Maths to join the Education Department at HMP Forest Bank. This role is integral to delivering high-quality education that supports offenders' rehabilitation and equips them with essential skills to reduce reoffending and increase employability.
Responsibilities
- Teach accredited and non-accredited English and Maths courses up to Level 2, including Functional Skills.
- Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate stimulating courses and learning activities tailored to learners' needs.
- Deliver initial assessments and diagnostic testing to place learners appropriately and signpost them to relevant educational pathways.
- Challenge and motivate hard-to-reach and sometimes challenging learners, promoting positive behaviour and increased self-esteem through effective role modelling.
- Identify and respond to individual learning needs, including learners with SEND/Learning Difficulties and Disabilities (LDD), and develop suitable support plans.
- Collaborate with education and regime delivery teams to provide a broad and relevant educational programme.
- Maintain excellent quality assurance standards to meet OFSTED and internal inspection requirements.
- Ensure strict adherence to Prison Service and HMP Forest Bank security policies and procedures.
- Monitor and report on learner attendance, progress, achievement, and qualification outcomes.
- Participate actively in team meetings, course reviews, and continuous professional development initiatives.
Qualifications
- Essential: PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification.
- Essential: Experience teaching Maths and English, with sound knowledge of Functional Skills.
- Essential: Understanding of SEND/Learning Difficulties and Disabilities (LDD).
- Essential: Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, adaptable to diverse learners.
- Essential: Flexible, responsive, and enthusiastic with a commitment to innovation and self-motivation.
- Essential: Passionate about offender rehabilitation and resettlement.
- Essential: Committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion principles.
- Desirable: Experience working with challenging behaviours.
- Desirable: Experience in a prison or secure environment.
